If KnotRat Creative had a slogan it would go something like, “Built to last, but made for the here and now”. Meaning that I use 100% all-natural recycled cotton cord and knots that are built tough. But each item is handmade by me, just for you. Over time, wear is expected to be seen on something that’s been loved… but that’s no reason not to love it anyway.

 I’m Melissa, otherwise known as Rat, owner and creator of KnotRat Creative.

Currently based in Eastern Oregon with my boyfriend and Fig the cat,

I’ve always had a deep love for art and a passion for creativity, but figuring out how to channel that energy was a challenge. My grandpa was an amazing painter who inspired me and taught me a great deal on how to create, understand, and respect art. My favorite paintings were always the ones with the heaviest textures, unfortunately. The biggest rule is look but don’t touch and all I want to do is run my hand over the whole thing and feel every stroke.

   As annoying as that is, it sparked my passion for macrame. I love making art that can be touched! It's with that in mind, that I do my best to ensure quality craftsmanship and durability in every design. This is so even more delicate pieces, such as a mirror or wall hanging, are encouraged to be felt and interacted just as other projects, such as a coaster or plant hanger, are made to be used all the time.
